Mel Gibson

This is my celebrity touch up for Mel Gibson. The weekend before I started this project, I saw Hacksaw Ridge, so I decided to do him since he directed the movie. My main objective, as with the rest of my peers, was to make celebrities look younger. The tools that I mainly used throughout this project was the Spot Healing Brush, Liquify, as well as the Brush tool to make Mel look younger (lift wrinkles, erase smile lines. etc.) The primary challenge that I faced during this assignment was trying to make Mel look 'real' (for the lack of a better word) in his prosthetic youth - which honestly was a shot in the dark since I've hardly seen him in anything other than Mad Max or Braveheart. Because of this, I left his sideburns with a hint of grey to show that he may be somewhere between his mid-forties or early fifties. Because of the extensive work that I put into this, I believe its honestly pretty disgusting that people feel the need to correct features that are natural. This left me with a bunch of questions towards celebrities in general - specifically, why do you need a computer to make you feel better about yourself? Just change whatever imperfections you percieve physically; not digitally. That is why I respect celebrities that bow out with grace regarding age: they accept the fact that they're old and their best days may be behind them. So, yeah, if you want pictures of celebrities "corrected" for whatever reason, don't go overboard - because people will know its been changed . . . considering the human eye has a knack for identifying authenticity.
